Who & What Are We Seeking?

While the Lord gave us desires and dreams that He blesses us to pursue, it’s important to remember who and what our motivation is.

So often we get caught up in chasing the promises that the Lord gives us. But do we often stop to consider if the promises He’s speaking into our lives are for now in our timing or during His timing?

I’ve learnt over the years that most of the time the Lord gives us His promise or speaks a word for something that lies ahead. And the Holy Spirit tells us pretty clearly if it’s something that’s needed to be done now. What He does is ask us to prepare for the promises that He has given us.

Unfortunately, our hearts sometimes refuses to listen. We always want the “now’s”, especially when they are good things. “Lord, I’m ready! I feel ready!” we might say. But the Lord says, no. You are not quite ready that’s why I’m telling you this so you can prepare right now for what I have in store for you ahead. Provers 16:9 says it perfectly.

The heart of man plans his way,     but the Lord establishes his steps.

During the preparation its important to also remember to not lose focus. Sometimes I get caught up in trying to be right or keep my heart right that I lose sight of the one who gave me the heart in the first place. What I mean is asking ourselves, who is our source?

Ultimately, everything goes back to Him and is for His glory. So again, what is our motivation? What is fueling is forward? Who are we trying to seek, honestly?

Take some time to pray and ask the Lord to reveal the true stature of your heart right now. Let Him take you to the places where you’ve never ventured. Repent for the things that He surfaces for us to ask for forgiveness. Write it out. Talk to a buddy or a mentor about it. The Lord is faithful for those who trust in him.

Proverbs 16:1-3 1 The plans of the heart belong to man,     but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,     but the Lord weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the Lord,     and your plans will be established.

P.S: I found Joyce Meyer‘s article about God’s timing pretty well written 🙂 Take a read if you have the time.
